About the position

The Environmental Supervisor II position at the Florida Department of Transportation involves overseeing environmental impact reviews for transportation projects, managing a team, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The role includes supervising staff, conducting field reviews, preparing environmental documentation, and coordinating with various stakeholders to support project development and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, communicate with, motivate, and train employees.
  • Evaluate employee performance and plan/direct their work.
  • Conduct and oversee environmental impact reviews of transportation improvement projects.
  • Independently perform environmental work including field reviews and GIS analysis.
  • Prepare NEPA and other PD&E environmental documentation for various projects.
  • Coordinate district level NEPA assignment activities including self-assessments and audits.
  • Assist in tracking and coordinating district PD&E/NEPA projects and Final Design plans review activities.
  • Conduct reviews of construction plans for roadway projects and provide compliance comments.
  • Lead consultant management activities including scope development and negotiations.
  • Manage consultant contracts and review consultant work activities.
  • Provide environmental expertise during meetings and act as a liaison to environmental agencies.
  • Identify, track, and review project commitments from PD&E through Final Design and Construction phases.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of DOT, transportation project development, NEPA, and environmental review processes.
  • Knowledge of contract management and project management practices.
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks with deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in management, supervision, and staff development.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and use computer programs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in preparing and conducting training.
  • Ability to manage consultant tasks and review progress reports.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret data.
