About the position

The Environmental & Sustainability Program Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining environmental systems within a manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance with regulations while promoting a proactive environmental culture. This role involves driving continuous improvement efforts, overseeing environmental compliance activities, and collaborating with various departments to address critical environmental issues. The specialist will report directly to the EHS Director of North America and will play a key role in developing and implementing environmental programs across multiple entities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain environmental systems to promote a proactive environmental culture.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts for world-class environmental performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement environmental programs for VAM USA, VTA, and Vallourec NA entities.
  • Oversee site environmental compliance activities and programs.
  • Lead environmental initiatives and inform management of critical environmental issues.
  • Interface with site Safety personnel, operations personnel, and other departments.
  • Oversee environmental internal reporting of key indicators and external compliance reporting.
  • Conduct assessments and audits to improve the environmental culture.
  • Develop new policies and procedures as required.
  • Create training material and conduct employee/supervisor training.
  • Support company initiatives and build relationships through effective communication.
  • Perform field inspection activities for regulatory compliance.
  • Manage environmental issues, permits, and plans related to stormwater, air, waste, and wastewater.
  • Report environmental indicators to internal and external parties.
  • Provide technical support in troubleshooting high-level environmental issues.
  • Write technical and management systems reports and documents.
  • Lead internal compliance audits and program evaluations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance/management or related field.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience training team members.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and ISO 14001.
  • Outstanding communication skills and highly organized.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Experience with writing clear and concise reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Related environmental certifications preferred.
  • Experience working within the steel industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with statistical and quality-related software programs.
