About the position

The Environmental Systems Technician - Solid Waste position at Kootenai County involves working as part of the hazardous materials response team, maintaining and operating various environmental management systems. The role focuses on ensuring public safety and environmental preservation through effective management of solid waste and related systems. The technician will engage in a variety of tasks in an outdoor setting, contributing positively to the community and the environment.

Responsibilities

• Act as part of the hazardous materials response team.
• Maintain, construct, operate, and monitor leachate collection systems.
• Manage surface water, groundwater, landfill gas, and hazardous waste management systems.
• Address other environmental issues for the Kootenai County Solid Waste Department.
• Provide exceptional customer service and engage with the public.
• Safely operate and maintain hand, power tools, and motorized equipment.

Requirements

• Associate's degree or Applied Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Sanitation, or Environmental Science.
• Minimum of 48 months related experience and/or training.
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid commercial driver's license (Class B).
• Ability to meet minimum physical fitness standards and be respirator fitted.
• Possession of required certifications.
