About the position

The City of Ontario is seeking a motivated Environmental Technician to lead efforts in ensuring quality environmental compliance programs for residents and businesses. This role involves developing, implementing, and coordinating various environmental programs, with a focus on integrated waste recycling. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a passion for environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and coordination of environmental compliance programs.
  • Prepare reports to meet local, state, and federal monitoring requirements.
  • Develop and coordinate public awareness programs and events.
  • Write and maintain information related to public environmental programs.
  • Respond to inquiries and handle complaints related to integrated waste.
  • Review invoices for accuracy prior to authorization for payment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new systems and procedures.
  • Maintain records, databases, and documents; prepare reports.
  • Provide advice and consultation in area of assignment to City staff and others.
  • Draft press releases, public outreach materials, and reports.
  • Represent the City at meetings with the public and other external entities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • Completion of technical courses, training, or certification in areas related to environmental compliance and/or organics recycling.
  • One year experience in the coordination or implementation of programs related to organics recycling.
  • Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

  • Experience in communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
