The Environmental Test (ET) organization plays a crucial role in this mission by providing testing capabilities for every phase of the product life cycle, from prototype to production. Our environmental testing encompasses a wide range of methodologies, including mechanical shock, electrodynamic vibration, salt fog, and climatic environments such as temperature, altitude, and humidity. We also conduct high-temperature quartz lamp testing, structural testing, and custom instrumentation installations, along with data acquisition support. We are currently seeking a Senior Support Engineer to join our Environmental Test team. In this role, you will be responsible for executing a variety of environmental tests while collaborating within an integrated product (IP) team environment. You will work closely with Test Engineers and other Support Engineers to implement tests that meet customer requirements. Your responsibilities will include test setup, equipment control and monitoring, data collection, and data verification. Additionally, you will troubleshoot and adjust both the test equipment and test setup when technical issues arise, ensuring that all tests are conducted accurately and efficiently. This position is based onsite in Tucson, AZ, and requires a strong commitment to safeguarding classified and proprietary materials, hardware, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform set-up and operation of mechanical shock test and electrodynamic vibration test systems.
  • Set up and operate climatic environmental chambers for testing temperature, altitude, and humidity.
  • Program and operate all control and data acquisition systems, including instrumentation and signal conditioning.
  • Execute various vibration test methods as defined in Mil-Std-810, including random, sine, shock, and drop shock tests.
  • Collect and verify thermal, vibration, and shock test data for accuracy.
  • Safeguard classified/proprietary material, hardware, and documentation.
  • Work in closed/proprietary/classified areas.

Requirements

  • A University Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience with environmental test vibration shaker systems, shock test equipment, and/or climatic test chambers.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience with mechanical hardware, electrical instruments, and/or computer systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology with two or more years of equivalent experience in a test engineering support capacity.
  • Experience with instrumentation including accelerometers, thermocouples, strain gauges, load cells, and displacement transducers.
  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting signal conditioners and data acquisition system hardware and software.
  • Experience working with vibration control systems and software.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills including effective written, verbal, and listening abilities.
  • High situational awareness and ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Current DoD secret or TS/SSBI clearance.
