About the position

The Environmental Trainee position at the Department of Environmental Protection is designed to protect public health and the environment in Pennsylvania by enforcing the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act. This role involves participating in a one-year training program to develop skills necessary for the Sewage Planning Specialist 1 duties, focusing on the objectives of the Clean Water Program. The trainee will engage with the community and local officials to clarify program details and resolve issues, while also conducting assessments and reviewing sewage planning modules.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program.
  • Enforce the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act in a designated area.
  • Analyze plans, regulations, and policies related to sewage facilities.
  • Conduct site assessments for on-lot and stream discharge systems.
  • Evaluate the performance of sewage enforcement officers.
  • Review sewage planning modules and make recommendations for approval or denial.
  • Prepare detailed technical analyses of sewage facility plans.

Requirements

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.

Benefits

  • Full-time employment with a salary of $44,890.00 annually.
  • Opportunity for part-time telework up to 3 days per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
