About the position

The Electrophysiology Device Specialist plays a crucial role in providing direct and indirect care to patients with cardiac pacemakers and automatic internal cardiac defibrillator systems. This position serves as a liaison between patients, healthcare staff, and external customers, ensuring continuity of care and effective communication. The specialist collaborates with various healthcare professionals to deliver safe and efficient patient care, adhering to national safety goals and departmental protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, manages, and provides support in the delivery of quality clinical care for patients with cardiac devices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac devices and utilizes critical thinking skills in patient care.
  • Performs daily reviews of remote transmissions from implanted devices and correlates information with patients' clinical conditions.
  • Conducts interrogations and reprogramming of devices during office visits, including urgent walk-ins.
  • Interprets arrhythmias and troubleshoots device settings according to patient needs and protocols.
  • Encourages questions from patients and families, providing guidance to foster compliance.
  • Educates patients on heart pacing and device functionality based on their understanding.
  • Documents patient contacts regarding device recalls and necessary monitoring changes.
  • Performs trans-telephonic checks on pacemaker patients and reports findings to physicians.
  • Triages and prioritizes messages, communicating information to providers and patients in a timely manner.
  • Completes and submits charges for device interrogation and remote check services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in the cardiac device/arrhythmia field preferred.
  • Previous experience with programmable electronic cardiac systems and program software.
  • Previous clinical cardiovascular experience preferred.
  • Training in Dysrhythmia recognition within 90 days of employment.
  • CPR and introduction to code training and simulation to be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Previous computer experience preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
