About the position

The EPI / Implant Process Engineer at MACOM is responsible for sustaining existing GaAs, GaN, and Si processes while also developing new processes in Metals within the wafer fab located in Lowell, MA. This role involves the growth and characterization of epitaxial crystal films, ion implantation, and implant annealing processes. The product lines include GaAs ICs, Si transistors, and other semiconductor products. In this position, the engineer will ensure that all factory indicators are met through daily sustaining of the EPI/Implant area. Continuous improvement of processes and procedures is a key responsibility, alongside the development of new processes for new products, product transfers, and new process capabilities for foundry operations. The focus on sustaining and continuous improvement encompasses various aspects such as quality, reliability, cost, yield, process stability/capability, productivity, and safety. The engineer will be expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and IC processing, as well as proficiency in data mining, statistics, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), Lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies. A proven track record of solving technical problems, project ownership, meeting deadlines, and multitasking is essential. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance processes and achieve aggressive goals, all while maintaining a strong sense of ownership and dedication to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Sustain existing GaAs, GaN, and Si processes in the wafer fab.
  • Develop new processes in Metals for new products and product transfers.
  • Ensure all factory indicators are met in the EPI/Implant area.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives for processes and procedures.
  • Focus on quality, reliability, cost, yield, process stability/capability, productivity, and safety.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve processes.
  • Summarize data and findings through technical writing, including process and equipment specifications.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in EPI and Implant processing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in compound semiconductor processes for high frequency applications.
  • Familiarity with materials systems for epitaxial growth, ion implantation, and annealing in compound semiconductors.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and IC processing.
  • Proficiency in data mining, statistics, SPC, DOE, Lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma.
  • Proven track record of solving technical problems and project ownership.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and multitask effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR restrictions.
