About the position

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer at Cook Children's Health Care System is a pivotal role designed for an emerging data professional who is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of analytics tools and data solutions. This position requires a deep understanding of business data needs, where the BI Developer will gather requirements, analyze data, and create robust analytics solutions tailored for advanced projects, self-service analytics, and business user consumption. The BI Developer will work closely with clinical, financial, and operational business leaders, as well as subject matter experts and Information Services applications teams, to design reports, dashboards, and analytics that accurately reflect business workflows and drive actionable insights. In this role, the BI Developer will be tasked with planning, designing, architecting, developing, testing, and implementing new BI solutions. Additionally, they will troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain existing BI solutions to ensure optimal performance. The BI Developer will write relational and multidimensional database queries that meet performance objectives and align with business use cases. Familiarity with data warehousing design and development methodologies is essential for success in this position. Ideally, the candidate will have experience with leading healthcare technology systems such as EMR (Epic), Claims processing (Epic), ERP (Workday), CRM, and cloud-based data platforms like Azure and Snowflake. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for candidates holding a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business, or a related field. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a BI Developer, Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, Data Engineer, Database Developer, or Technical/Systems/Application Analyst, or at least 4 years of relevant experience in similar roles. Proficiency in business intelligence tools such as Microsoft BI stack, SAP Business Objects, TIBCO Spotfire, Tableau, SAS, and Crystal Reports is required, along with programming experience in SQL, Python, R, SAS, or equivalent languages. The BI Developer must also be available for support by pager or telephone 24/7, ensuring that critical systems remain operational and responsive to business needs.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business or related/relevant degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a BI Developer, Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, Data Engineer, Database Developer, or Technical/Systems/Application Analyst, or 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools: Microsoft BI stack, SAP Business Objects, TIBCO Spotfire, Tableau, SAS, Crystal Reports, etc.
  • Experience programming in SQL, Python, R, SAS or equivalent programming languages.
  • Experience writing relational and multidimensional database queries and database object development.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing design and methodologies.
  • Availability for support by pager or telephone 24/7.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare, provider and/or managed care/insurance environment preferred.
  • Epic certifications: Epic Cogito, Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, and at least one of the following - Clinical/Patient Access/Revenue Cycle Data Model.
  • Experience utilizing, developing and supporting Epic Cogito tools, including Radar Dashboards, Reporting Workbench Reports, Radar SQL Metrics, Crystal Reports, SlicerDicer, Analytics Catalog, registries, etc.
