About the position

The IS Epic MyChart Application Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the planning, design, build, validation, testing, and implementation of information systems that support and enhance clinical practice and business processes. This position is primarily remote, with the expectation of traveling to Columbus, OH approximately once a month, sometimes with little notice. The specialist acts as the principal resource with clinical knowledge and computer expertise, coordinating and providing support for all new and current applications and software upgrades applicable to Epic systems. This is a full-time position that is eligible for benefits. In this role, the specialist will engage in systems analysis and support, ensuring that information systems meet the needs of customers. This includes providing customer service to define business needs, translating those needs into system functionality requirements, and conducting system design specifications and evaluations. The specialist will also be responsible for system coding, programming, and developing data queries and reports as needed. Maintaining data integrity and system survivability is critical, which involves developing and maintaining disaster recovery plans and ensuring current data in disaster recovery databases. The specialist will utilize IS operational support systems, build vendor relationships, and work to minimize system outages. Project management principles will be applied to lead small to medium projects, ensuring effective communication and status reporting. Knowledge of information assurance policies is essential, as the specialist will be responsible for protecting sensitive information and adhering to security procedures. Teamwork, collaboration, and professionalism are key components of this role, as the specialist will work closely with other IS staff and mentor junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, designs, builds, validates, tests, implements, and supports information systems to meet assigned customer needs.
  • Provides customer service to define business needs and translate those needs into system functionality requirements.
  • Provides analysis on system design specifications and system/product evaluation.
  • Provides system coding and programming as required.
  • Develops and implements data queries and reports as needed.
  • Creates and maintains high quality system, report, and interface test scripts.
  • Assures data integrity and system survivability by developing and maintaining Disaster Recovery plans for assigned systems.
  • Develops customer and system documentation as required.
  • Provides effective user training and support.
  • Provides troubleshooting, problem analysis, debugging, and resolution of assigned system issues.
  • Performs system updates, patches, service releases, and upgrades as needed.
  • Utilizes IS Operational support systems to include the Support Center, Change Control, Problem Management, source and version control, and other systems as required.
  • Builds and maintains vendor relationships to ensure products and/or services meet the business and clinical needs and objectives.
  • Works to minimize systems outages and the effects of outages on users by scheduling needed system downtimes.
  • Applies project management principles, industry best practices, and IS Project Management Office (PMO) methodologies to all assigned projects.
  • Leads teams on small to medium of limited scope and budget.
  • Interacts closely with the PMO for planning and status reporting.
  • Develops, implements, and/or maintains systems following IS Information Assurance policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintains individual accountability for security controls and measures.
  • Reports suspected security and/or privacy incidents following established procedures.
  • Maintains systems to keep information and resources secure and safe from known vulnerabilities.

Requirements

  • MyChart certification required.
  • At least 6 years of experience providing systems analysis support required.
  • Experience in health care environments preferred.
  • A clinical background in any discipline is highly desired; pediatric experience preferred, or nurse desired for clinical application.
  • An operational background in revenue cycle management desired for the non-clinical application.
  • Experience interacting with clinical or business areas to gather and understand workflow and technical requirements.
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience required; Clinical Licensure and/or other certifications preferred.
  • Epic certification strongly desired.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Strong skills in use of PC desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.
