The Epidemiologist/Data Scientist position at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) focuses on the Wastewater Surveillance Program, which is part of the CDC's National Wastewater Surveillance System. Responsibilities

• Conduct data analysis and develop metrics and indicators related to wastewater data.
• Perform epidemiologic interpretation of wastewater data to inform public health response.
• Utilize statistical software for reporting, analysis, and visualization of wastewater data alongside existing surveillance data.
• Apply advanced statistical methods, modeling, and spatial analyses to understand disease trends and burdens.
• Analyze wastewater concentration data for various pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2 and others.
• Collaborate with CDPH epidemiologists and local health departments to integrate wastewater monitoring into public health infrastructure.

Requirements

• Experience in epidemiology or biostatistics, particularly in data analysis and interpretation.
• Proficiency in statistical software for data analysis and visualization.
• Strong understanding of public health surveillance systems and methodologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
