About The Position

The Equal Employment Opportunity Coordinator is responsible for administering the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program within the Police Department of Detroit. This role ensures that all applicants and employees are provided equal opportunities in employment and contracting activities, regardless of their protected characteristics. The coordinator will handle complaints, oversee investigations, and ensure compliance with EEO laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience
  • At least one year of specialized and related work experience
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
  • Proficiency in Employment Law preferred
  • EEO certifications as either a Counselor or Investigator preferred
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Expert knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and ADA requirements
  • Ability to think analytically and solve problems
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in preparing and implementing EEO action plans
  • Knowledge of civil rights laws and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Help to create, implement, and maintain the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program
  • Gather, compile, analyze, and interpret data necessary for EEO compliance and reporting
  • Plan, complete, and file required EEO reports with government agencies
  • Use statistical software to measure and monitor compliance
  • Report survey results and recommendations for corrective action
  • Address internal inquiries regarding civil rights and equal opportunity laws
  • Complete environmental audits of specified commands within the department
  • Record discriminatory factors and corrective actions identified through investigations
  • Ensure timely processing and review of complaints
  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions on EEO policies
  • Prepare activity reports as required
  • Use computer applications for work assignments
