About the position

The Equal Employment Opportunity Investigator at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) plays a crucial role in investigating allegations of discriminatory employment practices. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state laws regarding equal employment opportunity, providing guidance to employees, and maintaining high professional standards within the Office of the General Counsel. The investigator will work closely with various stakeholders to support the district's mission of fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment for all employees.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate charges of discrimination in employment filed with the District and other governmental agencies.
  • Counsel employees on procedural requirements for internal handling of charges of discriminatory employment practices.
  • Determine the need for internal investigations by evaluating employee allegations in conjunction with District equal employment policy and applicable laws.
  • Advise employees alleging discriminatory practices of other government agencies' filing requirements.
  • Formulate a case investigation plan by identifying discrimination issues, applicable case law, and investigative techniques.
  • Conduct investigations and witness interviews, obtain affidavits, and examine appropriate records and files.
  • Analyze evidence and write reports of findings, recommending appropriate action to the supervisor.
  • Maintain case records and files, and work with other investigative staff members.
  • Conduct settlement discussions and attend site visits, fact-finding meetings, and settlement conferences.
  • Assist in training other District staff members in conducting equal employment opportunity investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university, preferably with courses in basic statistics, database management, employment law, research methods, or personnel administration.
  • Two years of experience advising or conducting equal employment opportunity investigations in areas such as sexual harassment and discrimination.
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English, especially Spanish, is preferable.
  • A valid California Driver License and availability of private transportation.

  • Experience in handling employee complaint issues related to equal employment opportunity.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines pertinent to EEO.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Excellent writing skills for clear and professional reporting.
