About The Position

The Equine Specialist at Camp Meriwether is responsible for providing a year-round equestrian program for various user groups, supporting Girl Scout programs, and ensuring high-quality customer service. This role involves planning and conducting horseback riding opportunities, managing equestrian staff and volunteers, and overseeing the care of horses.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience around horses.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in horsemanship, including riding, grooming, stable management, and basic veterinary care.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in riding instruction and barn management.
  • Ability to walk long distances on rough terrain for long periods of time and able to carry, lift and/or transfer up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness or ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.
  • First Aid/CPR or Higher (WFA, WFR) certified or willing to obtain.

Nice To Haves

  • College education desirable.
  • Microsoft Office proficiencies (including PowerPoint, Access, Excel).
  • Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff as well as volunteers.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and assist the equestrian program alongside the Barn Manager.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise weekend and seasonal equestrian staff and volunteers.
  • Plan and conduct mid-week and weekend horseback riding opportunities for Girl Scout groups.
  • Coordinate the care and feeding of horses owned or leased by the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta.
  • Act as the person in charge of the barn and the horses in the absence of the Barn Manager.
  • Support the council's mission statement, goals, and objectives.
  • Uphold the standards of the program set forth by Girl Scouts of the USA, the American Camping Association, and the Certified Horsemanship Association.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
