About the position

The Equipment Assistant: SCUBA position at Oregon State University provides instructional support for the Physical Activity Course Program within the College of Public Health and Human Sciences. This part-time role involves organizing and maintaining diving equipment, ensuring readiness for training weekends, and assisting with equipment rentals for the OSU community.

Responsibilities

• Organize the loading of equipment for training weekends
• Organize the unloading and washing of equipment from a training weekend
• Fill tanks and prepare suits for use, inspecting neoprene after every outing
• Keep track of equipment and communicate its status to the Aquatic Activities Coordinator
• Mark equipment for sizing and identification
• Assist with minimal equipment repair
• Maintain cleanliness in the dive locker area and mop excess water off the floor
• Prepare equipment for rental to the general OSU community and check in equipment after rentals

Requirements

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Certified Divemaster
• Ability to read spreadsheets accurately
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to work independently in the dive locker at night, on weekends, or early mornings as needed during the school year

Nice-to-haves

• Tank fill operator certification
• Mechanical abilities for helping with compressor, BC, and regulator repair under supervision
• Ability to work in the summer
