About the position

The Automation Technician role at Flex is focused on maintaining and troubleshooting automation and robotic systems to ensure continuous operation. This position is essential for supporting the manufacturing process by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and collaborating with engineers to enhance automation solutions. The role requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components
  • Ensure preventative maintenance of robotic and process support equipment are completed on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams
  • Collaborate with the automation team in the qualification process of automated systems
  • Assist engineers in developing and designing hardware and software for automation solutions
  • Identify machine malfunctions and isolate failure mechanisms
  • Perform preventive maintenance at specified intervals and schedules
  • Perform calibrations and re-qualifications on equipment
  • Assist process technicians and engineers with the installation and removal of process equipment
  • Analyze and implement corrective action reports and process tracking mechanisms
  • Disassemble instruments and equipment and inspect components for defects
  • Align, repair, replace, and balance component parts and circuitry
  • Assist engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair and evaluation plans and procedures.

Requirements

  • Typically requires an Associates Degree in related field, military technical training or equivalent education and training
  • Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with manufacturing and maintenance
  • Experience with material handling, automation and/or robotics equipment
  • Familiarity with electronic assembly, schematics, PCB loading, and mechanical assemblies
  • Experience with cables: crimping, harness assembly, connector/wire soldering, cable prepping
  • Testing experience with oscilloscopes, cable & harness testing, troubleshooting, component testing, logic analysis
  • Experience with machine operations including automatic component insertion equipment and wave soldering
  • Proficient with mechanical & electrical tools such as power air guns, taps & dies, alignment tools, and measuring tools.
