About the position

The Automation Technician role at Flex is focused on maintaining and troubleshooting automation and robotic systems to ensure continuous operation. This position is essential for supporting the production teams in Austin, TX, by ensuring that all automation equipment is functioning optimally and efficiently. The technician will work closely with engineers and other team members to implement solutions and perform preventive maintenance on various systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components to return them to serviceability.
• Ensure preventative maintenance of robotic and process support equipment is completed on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical diagrams, including complex automated system drawings.
• Collaborate with the automation team in the qualification process of automated systems.
• Assist engineers in developing and designing hardware and software required for all automation solutions per specifications.
• Identify machine malfunctions and isolate the failure mechanism through troubleshooting.
• Repair the failure mechanism in the most cost-effective manner.
• Perform preventive maintenance at specified intervals and schedules.
• Perform calibrations and re-qualifications on equipment at specified intervals and schedules.
• Assist process technicians and engineers with the installation and removal of process equipment.
• Analyze and implement corrective action reports and process tracking mechanisms.
• Disassemble instruments and equipment and inspect components for defects.
• Align, repair, replace, and balance component parts and circuitry.
• Assist engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment.

Requirements

• Experience with material handling, automation, and/or robotics equipment.
• Proficiency in electronic assembly, including schematics, PCB loading, and mechanical assembly.
• Experience with cables, including crimping, harness assembly, connector/wire soldering, and cable prepping.
• Testing experience with oscilloscopes, cable & harness testing, troubleshooting, component testing, and logic analyzers.
• Familiarity with machine operations, including automatic component insertion equipment, surface mount insertion equipment, and wave soldering.
• Ability to use mechanical and electrical tools such as power air guns, taps & dies, alignment tools, and measuring tools.
