About the position

The Equipment Manager/Technician at Urbana Country Club is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of a comprehensive fleet of golf course equipment. This role involves ensuring safety, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to budget guidelines while providing training and support to staff. The position requires a strong mechanical background and the ability to work in various weather conditions, with a focus on maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a comprehensive fleet maintenance program for golf course equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in various equipment including diesel, electric, hydraulic, and gasoline-powered vehicles.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance program within a specified budget.
  • Purchase parts and supplies as needed for repairs.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records in both hard copy and digital formats.
  • Spot check equipment performance and make emergency repairs as needed.
  • Instruct and train maintenance employees on safe equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Regulate employee use of equipment in the absence of the superintendent.
  • Maintain a clean and safe shop environment.
  • Coordinate reel grinding and cutting unit maintenance.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of light and heavy golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of various equipment repair tools.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions in the profession.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and determine maintenance work.
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors and crew members.
  • Basic computer skills for maintaining service records.
  • Knowledge of golf and its impact on course conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physical tasks.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous golf course equipment maintenance experience.
  • Strong mechanical or trades background.
  • Willingness to learn and be part of a team.
