The City of Escondido is seeking a dedicated and skilled Equipment Mechanic I/II to join our Public Works Department within the Fleet Services Division. This position is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency of our municipal services by providing preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, trucks, tractors, and motor sweepers. The Equipment Mechanic I is an entry-level position, while the Equipment Mechanic II operates at a journey level, requiring more independence and advanced skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex electronic and electrical systems, performing inspections, and ensuring that all city equipment is in optimal working condition. This role also involves maintaining accurate records of repairs and services performed, as well as participating in ongoing training and certification programs to enhance skills and knowledge in the field. As part of the progression criteria, Equipment Mechanic I incumbents are expected to advance to the II level after 24 months of successful performance, which includes acquiring a Master-Level ASE Mechanic Certification, completing specific training classes, and obtaining necessary licenses. The position requires a strong understanding of safety procedures, regulations, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment while also being capable of working independently when needed.
