About the position
The Equipment Mechanic I or II position at TxDOT's San Angelo District involves performing maintenance and repair work on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment used in highway and bridge construction. Responsibilities
- Perform repair and maintenance on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Adjust brakes and replace brake system parts, including air brake and anti-locking systems.
- Handle and dispose of environmentally hazardous materials according to regulations.
- Check and repair lighting and wiring mechanisms for vehicles.
- Complete repair order paperwork and enter data into fleet management systems.
- Order, pick up, and deliver parts and materials as needed.
- Perform welding repairs using acetylene and electric arc methods.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on vehicles and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and fuel injection systems.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Equipment Mechanic I: 2 years of experience in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair.
- Equipment Mechanic II: 4 years of experience in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair.
- Valid driver's license required for driving state vehicles.
- Must obtain a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with 'N' endorsement within 180 days of employment.
