About the position

The Equipment Mechanic I or II position at TxDOT's San Angelo District involves performing maintenance and repair work on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment used in highway and bridge construction. The role offers opportunities for learning and assisting with roadway maintenance tasks, while working in a team environment. The position is based in Sterling City and includes company-sponsored CDL training, with a focus on providing a stable job with ample paid time off.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair and maintenance on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Adjust brakes and replace brake system parts, including air brake and anti-locking systems.
  • Handle and dispose of environmentally hazardous materials according to regulations.
  • Check and repair lighting and wiring mechanisms for vehicles.
  • Complete repair order paperwork and enter data into fleet management systems.
  • Order, pick up, and deliver parts and materials as needed.
  • Perform welding repairs using acetylene and electric arc methods.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on vehicles and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and fuel injection systems.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equipment Mechanic I: 2 years of experience in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair.
  • Equipment Mechanic II: 4 years of experience in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair.
  • Valid driver's license required for driving state vehicles.
  • Must obtain a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with 'N' endorsement within 180 days of employment.
