About the position

The Equipment Operator/Farm/Irrigation/Livestock Worker position involves a variety of tasks related to the production of crops and livestock in Lemhi County, ID. The role primarily focuses on general farm work, irrigation, crop production, and livestock care, requiring the operation of various farm equipment and adherence to agricultural practices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize and harvest crops.
  • Make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery.
  • Mix and/or spray chemicals according to appropriate restrictive use laws.
  • Remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds.
  • Remove/pick rocks from field and dig trenches.
  • Paint farm structures and maintain/repair fencing.
  • Perform general cleanup of farm areas.
  • Drive, load/unload Ag exempt, non CDL, farm trucks and semis to transport crops to onsite storage.
  • Operate motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties.
  • Transport other farm workers if possessing the proper licensure.
  • Connect pipes and check alignment for hand line irrigation.
  • Operate and maintain wheel lines and pivots for irrigation.
  • Lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis.
  • Shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment or cut trenches to direct water flow for flood irrigation.
  • Observe and adjust revolving sprinklers for proper operation and uniform distribution of water.
  • Check physical characteristics and general condition of livestock, applying appropriate care and administering medications as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience operating farm equipment and machinery.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and practices.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects.
  • Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Experience in livestock care and management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in pesticide application.
  • Experience with crop production and livestock management.
