About the position

The Equipment Operator position within the City of Fort Worth's Environmental Services Department focuses on litter control operations, including illegal dumping and litter abatement. This role is essential in managing environmental quality and waste reduction services for the city's residents, contributing to the vision of making Fort Worth the most livable and best-managed city in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate various types of motorized equipment, including street sweepers and roto-boom trucks.
  • Rotate between street sweeping and illegal dumping abatement work to ensure safety.
  • Train and monitor lower-level workers in equipment operation and safety protocols.
  • Remove illegal debris and litter from city properties to prevent environmental hazards.
  • Haul trash debris to the landfill for proper disposal.
  • Verify waste locations and enter information into the computer, maintaining records as required by state regulations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and inspect it before use.
  • Maintain records of equipment used and operations performed.
  • Adhere to the assigned work schedule and comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in operation of motorized equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and physical examination.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of an appropriate CDL Class 'A' or 'B'.
  • Two years of experience in operation of motorized equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry and email.
  • Experience in creating and closing work orders.
