About the position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Anchorage International Airport, is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Under general supervision, professionally operate all heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of the Anchorage International Airport (ANC). Examples of equipment include, but are not limited to, motor graders, loaders, dump trucks, airport snow removal machines, roller compactors, sand spreaders, backhoes, and tractor-trailer combinations. The candidate will operate equipment on the airfield and airport property. The incumbent must be able to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner in a dynamic environment that is rapidly changing during snow/ice events. They must also be able to communicate clearly on company and air to ground radios. Daily duties include removing snow from the airfield surfaces, parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks. Other duties are cleaning of equipment, emergency concrete and asphalt repair, brush and tree removal, and many other labor-intensive jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of the Anchorage International Airport.
  • Remove snow from airfield surfaces, parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks.
  • Clean equipment and perform emergency concrete and asphalt repairs.
  • Conduct brush and tree removal.
  • Perform security inspections on the airport.
  • Maintain airport lighting systems.
  • Clear rights-of-way and airport safety areas of vegetation overgrowth.
  • Train for any emergency that may occur.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with TSA regulations.
  • Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on company and air to ground radios.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
