About the position
The Equipment Operator position at Pike Electric, Inc. is an entry-level role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The operator will work at various locations, potentially requiring travel to different states based on customer demands. This role emphasizes safety and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead systems safely.
- String overhead wire and set poles and anchors.
- Assist with the installation of transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Understand and operate heavy equipment and basic rigging techniques.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on circuits and understand induced voltage.
- Assist with the installation and hookup of single-phase transformers.
- Perform basic bucket rescue/escape and understand equipment setup and grounding concepts.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces, adhering to minimum approach distances and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of materials used in line work.
- Ability to travel long distances on short notice.
- Ability to work for extended periods in various locations.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work overtime when requested.
- Capability to learn and follow directions and safety protocols.
