About the position

The Equipment Operator position is an entry-level role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. The operator will work at various locations and may need to travel to different states based on customer demands. This role requires a commitment to safety while performing tasks related to energized and de-energized overhead work, including stringing wire, setting poles, and assisting with the installation of electrical components.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead systems safely.
  • String overhead wire and set poles and anchors.
  • Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Understand and operate heavy equipment and basic rigging techniques.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltage on circuits and understand induced voltage.
  • Assist with the installation and hookup of single-phase transformers.
  • Perform basic bucket rescue/escape and understand equipment setup and grounding.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces, adhering to minimum approach distances.
  • Check voltage on transformers and understand flag and tag procedures.
  • Install and remove service as required and use personal protective equipment appropriately.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of materials used in line work.
  • Ability to travel long distances on short notice when required.
  • Ability to work for extended periods in various locations when required.
  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (preferred).
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work overtime when requested.
  • Capability to learn basic knowledge of materials used in line work.
  • Ability to receive and follow directions and inspect rubber goods and PPE.
