About the position

The Equipment Operator Underground MPC position is an entry-level role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The operator will work at various locations and may need to travel to other states based on customer demands. This position requires a commitment to safety and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized underground systems.
  • Assist with installing underground transformers.
  • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor as required.
  • Understand and operate heavy equipment and basic rigging.
  • Follow directions and learn basic knowledge of materials used.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit and be familiar with induced voltage.
  • Assist with the installation and hook-up of a single-phase transformer.
  • Check voltage on transformers and understand flag and tag procedures.
  • Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work outside frequently in inclement weather.

Requirements

  • 5 years minimum of recent field experience.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License permit within 60 days of employment (Commercial Drivers License preferred).
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice when required.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work overtime when requested and outside of normal work schedule including weekends and holidays.
