About the position

The Equipment Systems Application Engineer I supports the construction sales team by assisting with pre and post sales activities related to building systems and equipment projects. This role focuses on executing equipment business while balancing customer satisfaction and project financial results. The engineer will work closely with account executives and management to ensure project success and compliance with customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with pre-sales activities including system configuration validation and equipment selection.
  • Provide technical support and limited estimating support to Account Executives during project design or proposal phases.
  • Support detailed estimating of projects and validate assumptions made during the proposal phase.
  • Prepare customer proposals and quote letters for assigned projects, including project takeoffs and specification reviews.
  • Manage project Profit and Loss (P&L) and customer satisfaction for all assigned projects.
  • Coordinate backlog execution and forecast equipment project execution up to two years in advance.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to develop engineered equipment submittals.
  • Verify that Johnson Controls has an approved equipment submittal before releasing equipment for fabrication.
  • Evaluate the contractual scope of supply and coordinate project schedules with customers.
  • Maximize appropriate additional change orders and perform associated cost estimates.
  • Coordinate the factory equipment order process to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Select, order, and track delivery of materials and equipment for assigned projects.
  • Communicate project progress, issues, and financial status to management.
  • Review vendor invoices for compliance before approving payment.
  • Coordinate post-shipment services including start-up initiation and problem resolution.
  • Visit customer sites to ensure delivery and receipt of critical equipment meets expectations.
  • Ensure project documentation complies with contract requirements and Johnson Controls standards.
  • Answer engineered equipment and controls application questions from potential customers.
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with customers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Coordinate customer-training requirements with the local service team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, project management, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Writer and Windows operating system.
  • AutoCAD experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
