About the position

As an Equipment Systems Application Engineer I at Johnson Controls International, you will play a crucial role in supporting the construction sales team by engaging in both pre-sales and post-sales activities related to building systems and equipment project opportunities. This position is primarily focused on executing our equipment business, but the balance of pre and post-sales activities will vary depending on the assigned branch type, the Account Executives involved, and the expectations of our customers. In the pre-sales phase, your responsibilities will include validating system configurations, selecting HVAC equipment and controls for the basis of design, and assisting with bidding, application, and pricing. You will receive guidance and support from the branch operations manager, account executives, and sales leadership to ensure that pre-sale needs and expectations are met effectively. Post-sales, you will be responsible for executing equipment projects in a manner that is profitable, accurate, timely, and aligned with customer expectations. This includes developing detailed engineering information and submittals to communicate design, configuration, operating, and installation requirements to customers, consultants, and subcontractors. You will work closely with the sales team to maintain a balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results throughout the execution of your duties.

Responsibilities

  • Support the construction sales team with pre and post sales activities on building systems and equipment project opportunities.
  • Assist in system configuration validation and HVAC equipment/controls selection for bidding and application.
  • Provide technical support and limited estimating support to Account Executives during project design or proposal phases.
  • Prepare customer proposals and quote letters for assigned projects, including project takeoffs and specification reviews.
  • Manage project Profit and Loss (P&L) and customer satisfaction for all assigned projects.
  • Coordinate backlog execution and forecast execution of equipment projects up to two years in advance.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to develop engineered equipment submittals.
  • Verify that Johnson Controls has an approved equipment submittal and positive configuration acceptance before releasing equipment for fabrication.
  • Evaluate contractual scope of supply and coordinate project schedules with customers.
  • Maximize appropriate additional change orders and prepare proposals for customer acceptance.
  • Coordinate the factory equipment order process to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Select, order, and track delivery of materials and equipment for assigned projects.
  • Communicate project progress, issues, and financial status to management as required.
  • Review vendor invoices for compliance before directing payment approval.
  • Coordinate post-shipment services including start-up initiation and problem resolution.
  • Visit customer sites to ensure delivery and receipt of critical equipment meets expectations.
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with customers, consultants, and contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, project management, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Visio, as well as Adobe Writer and basic Windows operating system.
  • Preferred experience with AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for communication with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with professionalism.
