About the position

As an Equipment Systems Applications Engineer at Johnson Controls, you will play a crucial role in supporting the construction sales team by assisting with both pre-sales and post-sales activities related to building systems and HVAC equipment project opportunities. This position operates under general direction and involves a variety of responsibilities that ensure the successful execution of projects while maintaining customer satisfaction and financial performance. In the pre-sales phase, your responsibilities will include validating system configurations, selecting HVAC equipment for the basis of design, and assisting with bidding, application, and pricing. You will receive guidance and coaching from assigned account executives and sales leadership to meet pre-sale needs and expectations. Your technical expertise will be essential in developing customer proposals, preparing detailed engineering information, and communicating design and installation requirements to various stakeholders, including customers, consultants, and subcontractors. Post-sales, you will manage the execution of equipment orders, ensuring that projects are completed profitably, accurately, and on time, in alignment with contractual obligations and customer expectations. This includes managing project Profit & Loss (P&L), preparing change order proposals, and coordinating the factory equipment order process to ensure compliance with contract documents. You will also be responsible for maintaining long-term relationships with customers and other stakeholders, effectively communicating project progress, and addressing any billing or collection issues in collaboration with the operations team. Responsibilities

  • Support the construction sales team with pre and post sales activities on building systems and HVAC equipment project opportunities.
  • Assist with system configuration validation, HVAC equipment selection, and pricing during the pre-sales phase.
  • Provide technical support and limited estimating support to Account Executives during project design or proposal phases.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates and scopes of work for assigned projects in conjunction with sales.
  • Prepare customer proposal quote letters, including project takeoffs and specification reviews.
  • Manage project Profit & Loss (P&L) for all assigned projects, ensuring profitability and compliance with contract terms.
  • Coordinate the factory equipment order process to ensure technical and commercial compliance with contract documents.
  • Generate technical content Purchase Orders for all materials and equipment, tracking delivery closely with all parties involved.
  • Communicate project progress and financials to the management team as needed.
  • Review and process all invoices for payment related to assigned projects, addressing any billing or collection issues promptly.
  • Visit customer sites as required to ensure compliance with delivery and receipt of critical equipment.
  • Maintain long-term relationships with customers, consultants, and subcontractors, attending necessary meetings.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of additional experience in a related role.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Visio, as well as Adobe Writer and basic Windows operating system.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or Construction.
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and AutoCAD.
