About the position

The Equity Research Analyst/Associate position at Bank of America is a critical role within the IT Hardware and Technology Supply Chain Research team. This position is responsible for assisting in the recommendation process related to the buying, selling, or holding of financial securities, as well as studying the role of government in the economy. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of tasks including performing financial and statistical analyses, conducting thorough research, preparing detailed reports, and helping to originate, structure, and model transactions. Additionally, the role involves assessing market trends and providing insights that can influence investment decisions. The IT Hardware and Technology Supply Chain Research team covers a growing number of stocks, currently at 27, which are characterized by high trading volume and strong investor interest. The team is looking for an individual who can integrate macro themes and megatrends within the rapidly evolving technology landscape, presenting these insights in concise written research that includes actionable investment ideas across the coverage universe. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 4 years of experience in the markets, particularly with a focus on the technology sector, and will work closely with both the Senior Analyst and other team members in all aspects of research, from idea generation to company meetings. This role is designed for someone who is eager to contribute to financial modeling and qualitative analysis, which are essential for formulating investment opinions. The candidate will be expected to perform financial modeling and valuation work, write industry and company reports, analyze data from market research databases, and respond to research inquiries from institutional investor clients. Building relationships with contacts at covered companies and participating in industry conferences are also key components of this position. The candidate must demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment, as well as the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform financial modeling & valuation work
  • Regularly write industry and company reports and initiations of coverage from scratch
  • Analyze data in market research databases
  • Respond to research inquiries from institutional investor clients during market hours
  • Interview industry experts regarding our covered companies and industries
  • Build relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companies
  • Participate and contribute to industry conferences and events
  • Closely follow and understand stock market, industry and company specific activity, and relay to the analyst when he/she is traveling
  • Seek out new, unusual sources of information to augment our research capabilities
  • Work with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes
  • Demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience; progress towards a CFA or other relevant professional certifications is a plus
  • 1-3 years of experience focusing in equity research, buy side experience or investment banking experience
  • Strong writing and modeling skills (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement in Excel)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to respond well to time-sensitive tasks, such as writing earnings reports and responding to clients
  • Enjoy following the stock market and conducting desktop and field research
  • Strong Finance and Accounting skills, with a basic understanding of economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
