About the position

This position is responsible for assisting with the recommendation process related to the buying, selling, or holding of financial securities, as well as studying the role of government in the economy. The role involves performing financial and statistical analyses, conducting research, preparing reports, and helping to originate, structure, and model transactions. Additionally, the candidate will assess market trends and may rotate through specific product areas or sectors to gain exposure to the business. The IT Hardware and Technology Supply Chain Research team, which covers 27 stocks with high trading volume and strong investor interest, is looking for someone who can integrate macro themes and megatrends in a changing technology landscape. The ideal candidate will present these insights in concise written research with actionable investment ideas across the coverage universe. This role is critical in providing financial modeling and qualitative analysis to formulate investment opinions, working closely with both the Senior Analyst and team members from idea generation to company meetings. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment, regularly write industry and company reports, analyze data in market research databases, and respond to research inquiries from institutional investor clients during market hours. Building relationships with contacts at covered companies and participating in industry conferences and events are also key responsibilities. The candidate should be proactive in seeking out new and unusual sources of information to enhance research capabilities and work collaboratively with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform financial modeling & valuation work
  • Regularly write industry and company reports and initiations of coverage from scratch
  • Analyze data in market research databases
  • Respond to research inquiries from institutional investor clients during market hours
  • Interview industry experts regarding our covered companies and industries
  • Build relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companies
  • Participate and contribute to industry conferences and events
  • Closely follow and understand stock market, industry and company specific activity, and relay to the analyst when he/she is traveling
  • Seek out new, unusual sources of information to augment our research capabilities
  • Work with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes
  • Demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience; progress towards a CFA or other relevant professional certifications is a plus
  • 1-3 years of experience focusing in equity research, buy side experience or investment banking experience
  • Strong writing and modeling skills (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement in Excel)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment
  • Excellent communications skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to respond well to time-sensitive tasks, such as writing earnings reports and responding to clients
  • Enjoy following the stock market and conducting desktop and field research
  • Strong Finance and Accounting skills, with a basic understanding of economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
