About the position

The Technology and Software Equity Research team is a pivotal unit within our organization, responsible for covering over 55 listed issuers and vetting more than 50 potential IPOs in the technology and software sector. This sector boasts a market capitalization exceeding $3 trillion, making it one of the most significant areas for Trading, Sales, Global Wealth, and Investment Management. The ideal candidate for this position will possess between one to four years of relevant experience in financial markets, particularly with a focus on the technology and software sectors. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Senior Analysts and Junior Analysts, engaging in all aspects of the research process from idea generation to company meetings. Your contributions will be critical in providing comprehensive financial modeling and qualitative analysis for Equity Capital Committee (ECC) meetings, sales teach-ins, and the eventual launch of coverage on new companies. You will be expected to perform complex financial modeling and valuation work, write detailed industry and company reports, and initiate company coverage from scratch. Additionally, you will analyze data from market research databases, demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment, and conduct interviews with industry experts regarding the companies and industries we cover. Building relationships and facilitating information flow with contacts at covered companies will be essential, as will participating in client meetings and events. You will also be responsible for closely monitoring market, industry, and company-specific activities, relaying important information to analysts, and seeking out new and unusual sources of information to enhance our research capabilities. Responding to research inquiries from institutional investor clients during market hours will also be a key part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex financial modeling & valuation work
  • Write regular industry and company reports and company launch initiations from scratch
  • Analyze data in market research databases
  • Demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment
  • Interview industry experts regarding our covered companies and industries
  • Work with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes
  • Build relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companies
  • Participate and contribute to client meetings and events
  • Attend meetings and interact with key opinion leaders
  • Closely follow and understand market, industry and company specific activity, and relay to analyst when traveling
  • Seek out new, unusual sources of information to augment our research capabilities
  • Respond to research inquiries from our institutional investor clients during market hours

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 1-4 years of experience focusing on the technology/software sector (equity research, buy side experience or investment banking experience)
  • Strong writing and modeling skills (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement in Excel)
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely about technology, business, and other complex topics
  • Ability to comprehend and create charts, diagrams, tables and other data visualizations
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment
  • Must enjoy following the stock market and doing desktop and field research
  • Along with Finance and Accounting, should have basic understanding of economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics
  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Must have strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task
  • Must work well in a collaborative team environment
