About the position

Voya Investment Management is seeking an experienced healthcare equities research analyst to join the Healthcare & Biotechnology Equity investment team. The analyst will be responsible for generating investment ideas within the Healthcare Sector, with a particular focus on biotechnology companies and scientific innovation. This role involves close collaboration with the Portfolio Manager to discuss innovative ideas, sector observations, and positioning, as well as presenting findings at weekly research meetings. Candidates from outside the San Francisco Bay area who are willing to relocate will also be considered. The analyst will be tasked with generating differentiated investment recommendations based on comprehensive scientific, financial, and fundamental research. This includes building, updating, and maintaining financial valuation models for new ideas, conducting risk-reward analyses, and monitoring risks through maintenance research. Daily responsibilities will involve monitoring company data releases and conference calls, reviewing scientific publications, and participating in calls with key opinion leaders. The analyst will also attend industry conferences, which will require regular travel, and will be expected to network with management teams to identify new industry trends or changes in current trends. Additionally, the analyst will provide support for client information needs and client reports. To be successful in this role, the candidate should possess a strong academic background, ideally with a scientific degree (e.g., BS), and a PhD is advantageous. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is also a plus. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of buyside (asset manager, hedge fund) or sell-side/investment banking experience, along with demonstrated ability to critically analyze and interpret scientific, clinical, and financial data. Strong financial and modeling skills are essential, as is the ability to think independently and generate original ideas. The candidate should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multitask while working to tight deadlines. Openness to discussing, sharing, and debating investment ideas in a collaborative style is also crucial.
