As an Equity Research Analyst focusing on the Basic Materials sector, you will play a crucial role in our investment strategy by conducting in-depth fundamental research on equities. You will work closely with the portfolio manager to contribute alpha-generating long/short investment ideas to the portfolio. Your collaboration with quantitative researchers will be essential in creating or enhancing systematic strategies, leveraging your sector-specific knowledge to drive performance. In this role, your primary objective will be to gain a comprehensive understanding of the underlying drivers of equity prices. You will be expected to read and summarize news articles, public filings, transcripts, and research reports to stay informed about market trends and developments. Additionally, you will build financial models that include revenue and margin projections, balance sheet analyses, and valuations to support your investment recommendations. Engaging with management teams will also be a key part of your responsibilities, as you interpret relevant alternative data to inform your analyses and investment decisions. This position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $120,000 to $190,000, depending on experience, along with variable compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fundamental research on equities in the Basic Materials sector.
  • Collaborate with the portfolio manager to generate alpha-producing long/short investment ideas.
  • Work with quantitative researchers to enhance systematic strategies using sector knowledge.
  • Read and summarize news, public filings, transcripts, and research reports.
  • Build financial models including revenue and margin builds, balance sheet analyses, and valuations.
  • Meet with management teams to gather insights and interpret relevant alternative data.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or MBA preferred.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred.
  • 2 to 7 years of relevant experience in finance, investing, or basic materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and passion for investment research.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Python is preferred but not required.

  • Experience in quantitative research or systematic investment strategies.
  • Familiarity with alternative data sources and their application in equity research.
