About the position

The Equity Research Associate position in the Energy sector at Raymond James involves supporting the Equity Analyst in conducting comprehensive industry and company research. This role requires the use of specialized knowledge and skills acquired through experience and training to collect, organize, and analyze data effectively. The associate will be responsible for writing investment-related research reports and creating and maintaining financial models that are crucial for assessing growth companies. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, client-service oriented, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, team-driven environment. In this role, the associate will develop expertise in the assigned industry and related companies, allowing them to assess the relevance of news and data effectively. They will perform both quantitative and qualitative analyses of macroeconomic variables that impact the industry. Maintaining databases and spreadsheets related to the industry and companies will be a key responsibility, as will developing financial models for revenue forecasts, cash flow analysis, and quarterly projections. The associate will also prepare internal and external reports and presentations to communicate research findings and investment ideas derived from security analyses. Collaboration with Senior Research Analysts will be essential in defining and documenting objectives for specific research projects. Overall, this position is integral to supporting the generation of new business activity by identifying and formulating new investment ideas within targeted industry groups. The associate will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Equity Research team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise on industry and related companies to assess the relevance of news and other data.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of macroeconomic variables that impact assigned industry.
  • Maintain databases and spreadsheets pertaining to their industry and related companies.
  • Develop financial models for revenue and income forecasts, cash flow analysis, balance sheet, and quarterly projections.
  • Prepare internal and external written reports and presentations to communicate research findings, news events, and investment ideas resulting from security analyses.
  • Work with Senior Research Analysts in defining and documenting objectives and approaches for specific research projects and studies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in business-related or data analytics field.
  • Demonstrated interest in the financial markets.
  • Knowledge of the company's working structure, policies, mission, and strategies.
  • Advanced concepts, practices, and procedures of Equity Research.
  • Principles of banking and finance and securities industry operations.
  • Financial markets and products knowledge.
  • Skill in identifying relationships, drawing logical conclusions, interpreting results, and communicating findings both orally and in writing.
  • Quantitative and analytical analysis sufficient to assist in the development of corporate financial projections and equity valuation metrics.
  • Ability to organize, manage, and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments with critical deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Data analytics/Coding skills strongly preferred.
  • Intermediate/advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
