About the position

The Equity Research Associate position at Johnson Investment Counsel involves providing essential support to the Research Department by collecting financial information and assisting analysts and product managers in security selection and portfolio management. The role is designed for entry-level candidates and aims to develop the necessary skills and experience to transition into a research analyst position.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to equity research analysts and product managers.
• Monitor daily news reports relevant to fund holdings and monitor list stocks.
• Maintain spreadsheets of key fundamental data and portfolio characteristics.
• Analyze performance attribution, evaluate return/risk characteristics, perform peer comparisons.
• Assist research analysts in expanding their coverage list and provide analytical support.
• Produce introductory reports that describe companies, basic fundamental and valuation data.
• Perform project work collecting third-party information and conducting data analysis.
• Help to produce research presentations and publications for internal and external use.
• Promote and maintain frequent interaction with product managers and analysts.
• Work on special projects as directed by the Director of Research.
• Develop skill set and experience necessary to become a research analyst.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• 0-3 years of investment research or related experience.
• Demonstrate commitment to achieving CFA designation.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Good organizational skills.
• Demonstrates initiative and ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience with FactSet, Bloomberg, Charles River, or Addepar.
