About the position

As an Equity Research Associate, the successful candidate will work closely with an analyst to provide insights and research on numerous companies within the Building Products sector. This role is pivotal in supporting the analyst by conducting thorough research and analysis, which will contribute to informed investment decisions. The work environment is collaborative, emphasizing coordination and a shared knowledge base among team members. The associate will be expected to engage actively with the analyst and the broader team to ensure that research outputs are comprehensive and insightful. The position involves daily writing of research reports and comments, which requires a strong command of language and the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. The associate will analyze financial statements and press releases, providing critical insights that will inform investment strategies. Additionally, the role includes examining industry databases and publications to gather relevant data and trends that impact the Building Products sector. The associate will also be responsible for completing extraordinary information and data requests, which may involve creating and maintaining detailed financial models. Effective communication of recommendations to both internal and external clients is essential, as is participation in site visits and management meetings to gain firsthand insights into the companies being researched. Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed, reflecting the dynamic nature of the role and the importance of adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • A combination of exceptional writing skills, technical knowledge and skills in equity research, finance or accounting demonstrated through relevant work and educational experience is required.
  • Candidates should have 1-2 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field of study.
  • Solid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • A keen interest in Equity Research.
  • Ability to systematically manage a heavy workload and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work irregular or extended hours.
  • Polished and comfortable working with stakeholders of all seniority levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior industry experience in the building product/homebuilding industry is not required but could be a benefit.
  • Previous experience with FactSet/Cap IQ is an asset.
  • FINRA/SIE certification is an asset.
  • MBA, CPA/CA and/or CFA certification is preferred.
  • U.S. only: Series 7, 63, 86, and 87 licenses are a plus.
