The Emergency Room Technician plays a crucial role in providing technical support to physicians and nurses in the Emergency Room, ensuring that patient care is optimized. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that are essential for the smooth operation of the emergency department. The technician works under the supervision of licensed medical doctors and is integral in assisting registered nurses and physicians in delivering technical care to patients. This includes performing essential tasks such as phlebotomy, starting intravenous (IV) lines, and conducting 12 lead electrocardiograms (EKGs). In addition to these tasks, the technician is responsible for transporting patients to various departments within the hospital, placing patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors, and performing Point of Care Testing. Wound care is also a significant part of the role, along with inserting foley catheters and obtaining lab specimens. It is critical for the technician to document all care and procedures provided to ensure accurate patient records. Furthermore, the technician assists the Emergency Physician with technical support, which may include suturing simple lacerations. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace and ensuring that all equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized is also a key responsibility of this position.
