About the position

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County is seeking a part-time Taste NY Market Store Clerk to join our team at the store located in Grand Island, NY. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about local agriculture and food products, and who enjoy engaging with the public. The Store Clerk will work under the direct supervision of the Taste NY Market Manager and/or the Assistant Market Manager, contributing to the daily operations of the store. The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including inventory management, customer service, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the store. The clerk will also be responsible for operating the cash register and ensuring proper cash controls are followed. This position is grant-funded and requires a commitment to promoting Erie County agriculture and local foods to customers. The Store Clerk will engage with customers by discussing local farms, produce, and food products available in the store. Daily tasks will include inspecting the store for cleanliness, organizing supplies, and refilling inventory as needed. The clerk will also assist in the transportation of inventory to the store and will be expected to maintain accurate records of sales and inventory. This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and have a passion for customer service. The position requires flexibility in working hours, which may include evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the store and its customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with management of inventory and operation of cash register.
  • Ensure proper cash controls are followed during transactions.
  • Transport inventory to the store as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service and engage with customers about local agriculture and food products.
  • Inspect the store for cleanliness and organization on a daily basis.
  • Refill supplies and maintain inventory levels as necessary.
  • Receive and log scheduled deliveries of products.
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.
  • Participate in professional development and training as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (speak, read, and write).
  • Basic math skills to perform calculations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse public audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License and ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to lift 20lbs to 50lbs regularly with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
