About the position

The ERP Database Administrator (DBA) is a mid-level technical position responsible for providing database and application administration for the Banner enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and its associated applications. This role supports various modules including Banner Student, Financial Aid, Finance, and Human Resources. The DBA plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of ERP systems by providing support for operations, installation, configuration, and upgrades of Banner modules, database software, and other applications. Additionally, the DBA is tasked with tuning the Banner database to optimize its performance and efficiency. In this position, the DBA collaborates with ERP analysts, system administrators, functional office staff, service providers, and other stakeholders to plan installations, upgrades, and assess performance or cybersecurity issues. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications, the DBA works under the guidance of senior technical staff and is an integral part of the department, ensuring that Banner and related applications function effectively across various functional and technical offices. The primary function of the Information Technology Services (ITS) unit is to support the university's mission of teaching, research, and scholarly application of knowledge by providing the necessary information technology infrastructure, software, hardware, and support. ITS comprises nine departments that work collaboratively with the university community to deliver the technology support and services essential for operational excellence and the integration of advanced technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide database and application administration for the Banner ERP system and associated applications.
  • Support the installation, configuration, and upgrade of Banner modules and database software.
  • Tune the Banner database to ensure efficient operation.
  • Coordinate activities with ERP analysts, system administrators, and functional office staff for installations and upgrades.
  • Assess performance and cybersecurity issues related to the Banner system.
  • Work collaboratively across functional and technical offices to maintain high effectiveness of Banner applications.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field with one year of progressive related experience, or a bachelor's degree in the same fields with two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical troubleshooting knowledge and proficiency in Banner and Oracle databases.
  • Expertise in Oracle SQL with the ability to tune database operations and advanced queries.
  • Practical experience in data exchange and transformation.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle from technical design to production migration.
  • Familiarity with change control procedures and compliance to ensure software stability and data integrity.
  • Proficiency in training and mentoring technical staff to enhance their skills.
  • Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong customer service skills and a proactive mindset.

  • Experience in managing projects from inception to completion, including developing project plans and coordinating timelines.
