About the position

The Hedge Fund Analyst position at the Employees Retirement System involves conducting routine to advanced hedge fund investment research and analysis. The role focuses on evaluating and performing due diligence on hedge fund portfolios, as well as assessing potential hedge funds for investment across various asset classes. The analyst will work under the supervision of the Director of Hedge Funds and will have the opportunity to exercise initiative and independent judgment in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Hedge Funds and other team members in due diligence of current hedge fund allocations and new investments.
  • Monitor economic, regulatory, and political developments affecting global public equity and debt markets.
  • Maintain documentation and analysis to support investment recommendations.
  • Manage information databases and portfolio management systems.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with vendors, General Partners, and Limited Partners.
  • Comply with agency policies, including the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
  • Travel to conferences to source new opportunities and network with hedge fund allocators.
  • Assist in communication with hedge fund counterparts to assess strategy strengths and weaknesses.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of investment experience at a financial institution or in hedge fund portfolio management, depending on classification level.
  • 1-3 years of experience using Bloomberg, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and various statistical programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant hedge fund or fund of hedge fund experience, including risk management.
  • Master's degree in business, finance, economics, or statistics.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or participation in the CFA program.
  • Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation or participation in the CAIA program.
  • 1-2 years of experience with basic statistical methods/software for returns-based analysis.
