About the position

The ERS Sr. Industrial DC Services Engineer position at Vertiv Corporation involves performing complex troubleshooting, specialized tests, inspections, and appraisals on electrical apparatus and systems. This role requires a high level of concentration and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, often with little to no direct supervision. The engineer will provide technical support to a region of service engineers and will be instrumental in leading large projects that require specialized skills, such as UPS acceptance tests and commissioning of larger DC systems. Additionally, the engineer will supervise turnkey projects, conduct detailed power surveys, and engage in various types of electrical consultation. The position also entails developing tests and inspections in new areas of field services, utilizing AC/DC load-banks and power quality recording instrumentation, and performing installation and start-up services on UPS and DC/Battery systems. The engineer may also supervise a full range of engineering studies and is responsible for writing detailed reports at the end of each project, ensuring accurate job billing. Furthermore, the role includes performing sales support functions, maintaining strong client relationships, and actively participating in client interface and business development activities. The engineer will also be expected to mentor and train other Field Service Engineers in the region, enhancing their skills and knowledge. A strong educational background in engineering, along with extensive experience in electrical systems, is required. Responsibilities

  • Perform complex troubleshooting, specialized tests, inspections, and appraisals on electrical apparatus and electrical systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot complex electrical systems, UPS/Battery systems, and all types of power metering.
  • Lead large projects requiring specialized skills such as UPS acceptance tests and commissioning of larger DC Systems.
  • Supervise 'turnkey' projects and conduct detailed power surveys and electrical consultations.
  • Develop tests and inspections in new areas of field services.
  • Utilize AC/DC load-banks and power quality recording instrumentation for troubleshooting.
  • Perform installation and start-up services on all UPS and DC/Battery Systems.
  • Supervise a full range of engineering studies as needed.
  • Write complete, detailed reports promptly at the end of projects and accurately process job billing.
  • Perform complex analysis and evaluative tasks for equipment labeling projects.
  • Provide sales support functions and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Prepare written job proposals for clients, including estimates of man-hours and expenses, and development of scope and pricing.
  • Engage in client interface and business development activities.
  • Deliver effective technical presentations and write publishable articles as required.
  • Mentor and train other Field Service Engineers in the region.

Requirements

  • Graduate Engineer BSEE or BSME with six years' experience, or a graduate of an applicable Electrical Technical School or Military equivalent with a minimum of nine years of relevant experience, or a high school education with at least ten years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and various industry standards such as OSHA and NFPA.
  • Special skills in power quality surveys, generation and co-generation start-up, ANSI, NEC, NEMA, and U.L. specifications, pilot wire and distance relaying, computer power system transient surveys, UPS systems, drive systems, and medium and high voltage substation start-up.
  • Strong background and experience in all types of switchgear and equipment testing through the 500 kV class.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical apparatus testing and a strong theoretical understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Excellent communication, supervisory, organizational, and management skills.
  • Strong computer skills including editing, formatting, and using templates in Microsoft Word, and operation of computer-controlled test equipment.
