About the position

The Senior Industrial DC Services Engineer at Vertiv Corporation is responsible for performing complex troubleshooting, specialized tests, inspections, and appraisals on electrical apparatus and electrical systems. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and the ability to support a region of service engineers with minimal supervision. The role is mentally demanding, necessitating a strong focus and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The engineer will lead large projects that require specialized skills, such as UPS acceptance tests, commissioning of larger DC systems, and supervising turnkey projects. Additionally, the engineer will be instrumental in developing tests and inspections in new areas of field services, ensuring that all work meets industry standards and client expectations. In this role, the engineer will utilize various testing and troubleshooting equipment associated with UPS, Charger, and Battery testing. Responsibilities include performing installation and start-up services on all UPS and DC/Battery systems, conducting engineering studies, and writing detailed reports at the end of each project. The engineer will also engage in sales support functions, maintain strong client relationships, and actively participate in business development activities. Mentoring and training other Field Service Engineers in the region is also a key aspect of this position, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex troubleshooting, specialized tests, inspections, and appraisals on electrical apparatus and electrical systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot complex electrical systems, UPS/Battery systems, and all types of power metering.
  • Lead large projects requiring specialized skills such as UPS acceptance tests, commissioning of larger DC Systems, and supervising turnkey projects.
  • Develop tests and inspections in new areas of field services.
  • Utilize AC/DC load-banks and power quality recording instrumentation for troubleshooting.
  • Perform installation and start-up services on all UPS and DC/Battery Systems.
  • Conduct a full range of engineering studies and evaluations.
  • Write complete, detailed reports promptly at the end of projects using a computer.
  • Perform complex analysis and evaluative tasks for equipment labeling projects.
  • Engage in sales support functions and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Prepare written job proposals for clients, including estimates of man-hours and expenses.
  • Participate in client interface and business development activities.
  • Deliver effective technical presentations and write publishable articles as required.
  • Mentor and train other Field Service Engineers in the region.

Requirements

  • Graduate Engineer BSEE or BSME with six years of experience, or a graduate of an applicable Electrical Technical School or Military equivalent with a minimum of nine years of similar work experience, or a high school education with a minimum of ten years of similar work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and various industry standards such as OSHA and NFPA.
  • Special skills in power quality surveys, generation and co-generation start-up, ANSI, NEC, NEMA, and U.L. specifications.
  • Experience with UPS systems, drive systems, complex control systems, and medium to high voltage substation start-up.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical apparatus testing and a strong theoretical understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Excellent communication, supervisory, organizational, and management skills.
  • Strong computer skills including editing, formatting, and using templates in Microsoft Word.

  • Experience with international standards and local jurisdiction requirements.
  • Familiarity with advanced electrical testing equipment and methodologies.
  • Previous experience in a mentoring or training role.
