About the position

The ERT People & Culture Coordinator plays a crucial role in leading and establishing a strong People & Culture presence during emergency responses within the IRC's Emergency and Humanitarian Action Unit. This position is responsible for creating and implementing essential people policies and programs to support emergency response teams, ensuring alignment with IRC's strategic commitments while fostering a safe and inclusive workplace culture. The coordinator will also oversee the onboarding of new staff, manage people-related operations, and drive the adaptation of global P&C initiatives in emergency contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a P&C strategy for the Emergency Response in line with organizational objectives.
  • Co-lead workforce planning for the Emergency Response, ensuring compliance with local legal requirements and IRC policies.
  • Meet with emergency leaders to clarify talent needs and devise workforce plans.
  • Advise the Senior Management Team on People & Culture and organizational culture.
  • Promote initiatives that enhance employee experience and team engagement.
  • Oversee the recruitment process and manage P&C staff within the Emergency Response.
  • Implement an employee engagement and communication strategy for remote management contexts.
  • Manage the development of local policies and standards for the Emergency Response.
  • Ensure high-quality strategies in recruitment, compensation, employee relations, and overall wellbeing.
  • Supervise payroll processes and ensure timely compensation for staff.
  • Promote mutual learning and capacity sharing on P&C standards with local partners.
  • Lead investigations on code of conduct issues and ensure compliance with IRC standards.
  • Foster a healthy organizational culture free of discrimination and bias.
  • Champion inclusive practices and organize cultural exchanges to enhance team cohesion.
  • Integrate safeguarding considerations in hiring and onboarding practices.
  • Provide guidance on duty of care supports and initiatives for staff wellbeing.
  • Organize team-building activities and maintain open communication channels.
  • Develop action plans to enhance staff morale and wellbeing in the office.
  • Support the coordination of P&C emergency response resources.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 years of progressive professional P&C experience in emergency response or humanitarian aid.
  • Ability to commit to deployment within 72 hours for 6 to 12 weeks at a time.
  • Experience supporting groups of 100+ employees across multiple cultures and locations.
  • Proven management and leadership skills including capacity-building and mentoring.
  • High levels of integrity and empathy with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Broad knowledge of People & Culture competencies including Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in people analytics and data management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in French, Spanish, and/or Arabic.
