About the position
The position is for an Elementary School Teaching/ESL role at Johnson Elementary School for the 25-26 school year. The teacher will report to the Principal and is expected to support English learners in acquiring the English language and improving their academic achievement in core subjects. The role involves designing engaging lessons, collaborating with general education teachers, conducting assessments, and engaging with parents to support language development at home.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons that support EL students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Use differentiated instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of ELs.
- Stay informed on the latest research and methods in EL instruction through professional development, training, and collaboration.
- Work closely with general education teachers to support EL students in mainstream classrooms.
- Provide guidance on lesson modifications, accommodations, and best practices for ELs.
- Conduct language proficiency assessments and use data to guide instruction.
- Monitor and document student progress, ensuring compliance with state and district guidelines.
- Communicate regularly with families to provide updates on student progress and strategies for language development at home.
- Share strategies for language development that parents can implement at home.
Requirements
- Current Illinois Teaching Licensure with ESL endorsement.
- Experience with WIDA or similar language proficiency frameworks.
- Familiarity with technology-based language learning tools.
- Proficiency in another language is a plus.
