About the position

The Estate Specialist/Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing tax filings for clients within the Private Client Services practice at Ballard Spahr LLP. This role requires substantial experience in federal gift tax returns, fiduciary income tax returns, and partnership accounting, along with a commitment to staying updated on relevant tax law developments. The position is hybrid, allowing for three days a week in the office, and demands strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Federal and State fiduciary income tax returns including individual and partnership tax returns, partnership accounting, and calculating individual estimated tax payments and liquidity estimates.
  • Prepare Federal and State estate and gift tax returns.
  • Prepare trust accountings including conservatorship and estate accountings to be filed with the appropriate court.
  • Prepare foundation tax returns, including 990PFs and application for recognition of exemption (Form 1023).
  • Remain current on relevant tax law developments and changes.
  • Prepare probate and related papers.
  • Gather and arrange for valuation of decedents' assets.
  • Oversee fiduciary accounting and bookkeeping.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience, preferably in the legal environment.
  • Substantial experience in the preparation of Federal gift tax returns and Federal and State income tax returns.
  • Mathematical proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
