About the position

The Steel Estimator position at Ascendo Resources involves preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structural and architectural steel projects. The role requires a strong understanding of the steel fabrication industry, attention to detail, and excellent analytical skills. The estimator will collaborate with various departments to ensure that project estimates align with client specifications, budgets, and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other project documents to develop comprehensive estimates for structural and architectural steel projects.
  • Research, analyze, and determine material and labor costs, factoring in current industry standards, fabrication methods, and material availability.
  • Prepare detailed bid proposals with clear and accurate breakdowns of materials, labor, and time required to complete projects.
  • Work closely with suppliers and vendors to obtain quotes and negotiate pricing for materials and subcontracted services.
  • Communicate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements and address any estimation concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of all estimates, bid proposals, and related documentation, and provide regular updates to the estimating manager and project team.
  • Assist in cost control efforts by analyzing project budgets, identifying potential cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring estimates align with financial goals.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a steel estimator, preferably within the structural or architectural steel industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred), or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proficient in estimating software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, materials, and labor costs.
  • High level of accuracy in calculations, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential errors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and suppliers.
  • Ability to analyze data, develop cost-effective solutions, and identify project risks or savings opportunities.
