About the position

The Estimator position at Geopaq Logic involves developing accurate and timely construction estimates for commercial retail projects. The role requires strong communication skills, as it involves significant interaction with subcontractors and vendors. The estimator will work under deadline pressures, support change orders, and help generate company standards for estimating. This is an in-office position based in West Sacramento, CA, and is focused on teamwork and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate and timely construction estimates.
  • Analyze and interpret detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with subcontractors and vendors, spending approximately 50-60% of time on the phone.
  • Build relationships with local subcontractors.
  • Support on change-orders and cost-to-complete estimates of ongoing projects.
  • Generate and communicate company standards for estimating design/build and plans and specs work.
  • Perform job handoffs from estimating to operations, demonstrating detailed scopes of work and specifications.
  • Determine and price value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications.
  • Perform budget pricing from schematic drawings and narrative.
  • Draft scope letters, proposals, and vendor solicitations.
  • Attend job walks, pre-bid meetings, and collaborations with clients and design professionals.
  • Prepare complete itemized estimates for commercial clients.
  • Present project estimates via Zoom, PowerPoint, or in person for review by owners and clients.
  • Resolve technical and value engineering matters during negotiation and contract execution.
  • Analyze contractual documents and modifications to determine scope changes.
  • Prepare estimates from Excel, take-offs, and bid scope summaries to ensure timely completion.
  • Review bid opportunities and outline pros and cons for go/no-go decisions.
  • Assist with the development of estimating procedures and guidelines.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in construction estimating (required).
  • 3 years of experience in commercial construction estimating (preferred).
  • 3 years of experience in retail construction estimating (preferred).
  • Outstanding knowledge of overall CSI divisions and bidding scenarios.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial construction materials and methods.
  • Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform complex estimating activities typical to the engineering and construction industry.
  • Ability to work with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to break down construction projects into required individual components and scopes.
  • Team-first mindset and good team player.
