About the position

The Estimator I (Solar) position is responsible for gathering, calculating, and compiling data for use in estimates, as well as preparing routine estimates under general supervision. This role is essential in supporting the planning and execution of renewable energy projects, specifically in solar energy, by ensuring accurate cost assessments and collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate quantity surveys and estimates for assigned project divisions.
  • Complete assignments within agreed time frames.
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier quotations or scheduling input as required.
  • Compute cost factors and prepare estimates for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Participate in plan review and estimate reviews for respective projects.
  • Assist in compiling historical cost data for projects.
  • Confirm list of subcontractors/suppliers proposing on the project.
  • Collaborate with Architects/Engineers to request clarifications or additional information.
  • Attend project meetings and perform site investigations as assigned.
  • Become familiar with all estimating software.
  • Complete pre-construction survey and other preliminary documents for small projects.
  • Perform majority of quantity surveys and pricing estimates for small projects.
  • Complete general conditions and prepare vendor proposal comparison and estimate summary sheets.
  • Conduct plan review and obtain applicable wage rates.
  • Coordinate with others to complete the proposal and develop the project schedule.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Drafting & Estimating, Engineering, construction management, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in Estimating Software.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret blueprints, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and document project activities.
  • Effective presentation skills to respond to questions from project managers, clients, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
