About the position

The Estimator II position at The Weitz Company is a key role within the Aviation Construction team, responsible for supporting the estimating process by preparing detailed estimates for construction projects. This includes quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, and compiling cost history. The role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the estimating team to ensure accurate and timely estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Read and analyze technical plans and specifications to include requirements in estimates.
  • Produce reliable, complete, consistent, well-documented, and timely quantity surveys as directed.
  • Generate design development estimates based on incomplete plans and specifications.
  • Assist in developing complete project quantities from schematic level plans and elevations.
  • Conduct organized sub and vendor solicitation, ensuring complete trade coverage and communicating scope of work accurately.
  • Assist in preparing bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabulation sheets, including custom client cost breakdowns.
  • Review trade proposals and scope letters to identify gaps and overlaps in scope of work.
  • Prepare the final estimate for rollover to the job cost accounting system, adjusted for project team needs.
  • Prepare cost analysis reports with detailed backup for price savings and identify value analysis opportunities.
  • Adhere to all company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; degree in a construction-related field strongly preferred.
  • Two years of estimating responsibility or significant field experience required.
  • Good math and analytical reading skills are essential.
  • Independent judgment and excellent organizational skills are necessary.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with tight timeframes while maintaining accuracy.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to quickly learn new applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with onscreen takeoffs and specific estimating software.
